Up and down Murray beats Monfils

Andy Murray mixed the sublime with the ridiculous but had enough in reserve to secure a 6-2 0-6 6-3 win over Gael Monfils in the Rogers Cup.
Murray came out intent on making an early mark and broke Monfils' first two service games and it took until the fifth game for the Frenchman to get his name on the board.
The Scot was rock solid on his own serve and behind some power serving and excellent ground play he took the opening set at a canter.
The first set was a stroll in the park for Murray and he simply lost concentration at the start of the second. Monfils did not waste the opportunity and he broke on three occasions to bagel Murray.
The world No. 4 did not hit a single winner in the set and threw in 18 unforced errors for good measure. Monfils toyed with Murray on occasions in the second set and closed it out with a stunning point, running Murray round the court and guiding a forehand into the open court.
Murray steeled himself at the beginning of the final set, employing the slice to good effect and despite Monfils flinging himself around the court at break point, the Scot broke in the first game. Monfils' effort in trying to get to the ball cost him dear, as he landed heavily on his shoulder and needed lengthy medical treatment.
The Frenchman played on and continued to fling himself around the court, but Murray was able to secure his place in the last eight, and a meeting with David Nalbandian, whem Monfils double faulted on match point.
