Jelena Jankovic's horror run of form continued as she crashed out of the Rogers Cup in Montreal at the hands of veteran Czech Iveta Benesova.

The world No.3 has lost in the round of 16 in her last four tournaments going back to Wimbledon but she didn't even make it that far this time, going out in the second round after receiving a bye to that stage.

Benesova, ranked 75, might have benefited from some extra confidence baased on Jankovic's recent run and she kept pace in an even first set before eventually coming out a 7-6 6-3 winner.

The other seeds in second round action fared much better, Na Li and Vera Zvonereva coming away with easy straight sets wins against Jarmila Groth and Yaroslava Shvedova respectively.

Svetlana Kuznetsova overcame a case of the jitters as she secured a 7-5 4-6 6-1 win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to reach the second round of the Rogers Cup.

Russian No. 11 seed Kuznetsova did not serve with any real authority early on, being broken twice, but she was all over her opponent's serve and three breaks helped her take a hard-fought first set.

Kuznetsova's hopes of securing an early finish were dashed as her fellow Russian battled hard in the second set and two breaks from just a pair of break points helped Pavlyuchenkova force a decider.

The threat sparked Kuznetsova into life and she totally dominated the final salvo, breaking four times, to move into round two.

The No. 10 seed Victoria Azarenka wasted no time in racing into round two, as she dropped just two games in her 6-1 6-1 win over Kateryna Bondarenko. Flavia Pennetta served up a bagel to Daniela Hantuchova, as the No. 15 seed claimed a 6-0 7-5 win.

No. 17 seed Marion Bartoli had the most dominating win of the day, smashing local hope Valerie Tetreault 6-1 6-0. And Nadia Petrova made it a clean sweep for the seeds, bar Jankovic, with a 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Lucie Safarova.

Lucky loser Kimiko Date Krumm took advantage of her slice of luck as she beat Monica Niculescu 7-6(4) 4-6 6-2, while Bethanie Mattek-Sands got the better of the all-USA battle, beating Melanie Oudin 6-1 6-4.

Alisa Kleybanova eased past qualifier Heidi El Tabakh and Agnes Szavay beat Gisela Dulko.

There were also wins for Maria Kirilenko, Ekaterina Makarova and Jie Zheng.
