Serena Williams forced to pull out of US Open

Serena Williams has been forced to pull out of the US Open as she continues her recovery from a foot injury.
The world No. 1 has not been able to compete since cutting her foot on glass in July.
Her last competitive action was at Wimbledon, where she won a 13th Grand Slam of her celebrated career.
US Open tournament director Jim Curley said in a statement: "We regret that Serena Williams is unable to play the US Open and wish her a speedy recovery.
"She will be missed, but the tournament is about the competition and the players on the court.
"This year's US Open will be a memorable event, as it has been every year."
The US Open begins on August 30 at Flushing Meadows in New York.
