Sharapova reaches semi-finals in Acapulco

Maria Sharapova booked her spot in the Mexico Open semi-finals with a 6-1 4-6 6-2 victory over Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia.

The Russian world No.2 will face third seed Caroline Garcia in the final four of the hard-court event in Acapulco. Garcia led Croatia's Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-2, 2-1 when her opponent retired.

In the other quarterfinals, Bulgaria's Sesil Karatantcheva topped Monica Puig of Puerto Rico 2-6 7-6(7) 6-4, and fifth-seeded Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland eased past Sweden's Johanna Larsson 6-3 6-3.

In the men's draw, top seed Kei Nishikori beat Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine 6-4 6-4. Nishikori will face South Africa's Kevin Anderson, a 3-6 6-3 6-3 winner over Serbia's Viktor Troicki, for a place in the final.

In the other half of the draw, American Ryan Harrison overcame towering Croatian Ivo Karlovic 4-6 7-6(0) 7-6(4) to set up a semi-final showdown with No.2 seed David Ferrer, who also advanced after a tough three-set win over Berndard Tomic, 6-4 3-6 6-1.
