Andy Roddick's disappointing season lurched further in the early hours of Thursday with defeat to Janko Tipsarevic in the second round of the US Open.
Roddick has struggled for form and has also been battling illness and he found Tipsarevic too strong as the Serb sealed a 3-6 7-5 6-3 7-6(4) victory.
It was a disappointing display from Roddick who, having claimed the first set, lost his cool when foot faulted during the third set.
Roddick was told he had foot-faulted with his right foot, when in fact it was his left, and launched a tirade at the line judge. The call was proved to be correct, but it did not sit well with the American.
"Not once in my career has my right foot gone in front of my left foot, never. That is unbelievable," Roddick shouted. "Why don't you get some umpires who know what they are doing? 1-800-rent-a-ref."
Roddick regrouped to force the fourth set into a tiebreak, but Tipsarevic kept his cool to book his place in round three.
