Federer opts out of Davis Cup tie

Roger Federer has elected to pull out of Switzerland's Davis Cup tie with Kazakhstan at the weekend.
The 29-year-old had made himself available for the play-off tie, but has informed officials that he will sit out the clash as he wants to take some time off following the US Open.
"I have decided not to join the Davis Cup team to Kazakhstan," Federer said on his official website. "I need some extra time to relax after the intense weeks in North America so I can finish the year strong."
Federer has had a disappointing season by his own high standards, having been beaten at the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open after winning the Australian Open at the start of the year.
He has slipped to third in the world rankings and been forced to watch great rival Rafael Nadal claim three of the year's Grand Slam titles.
