Seventh seed Victor Troicki made a fine start to his Thailand Open quest with a 6-3 6-1 mauling of Marco Chiudinelli.

Two breaks of serve were enough to secure the first set for the Serbian and the 24-year-old upped his level in the second, racing into a 5-0 lead before Chiudinelli avoided the bagel by taking the sixth. It proved to be only a minor respite, as Troicki booked his place in the second round in an hour and four minutes.

The No. 6 seed Thiemo de Bakker served 11 aces in his 7-5 6-0 win over Marc Lopez and will meet Daniel Brands in the second round after he beat Illya Marchenko 6-3 6-4. Florent Serra battled back from a set down to beat Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-7(1) 6-4 6-4.

Sergiy Stakhovsky saved two match points before edging past Michael Russell 2-6 7-6(4) 6-3 to reach the second round of the Malaysian Open. The Ukrainian seventh seed trailed 2-6 0-3 and also faced two match points at 3-5 in the second set, but Russell failed to convert and Stakhovsky rallied to move into round two.

Eighth seed Andrey Golubev was an impressive 7-5 6-2 winner over Yen-hsun Lu, while Kevin Anderson beat Alejandro Falla in three hard-fought sets.
