Federer proves too good for Djokovic

Roger Federer gained a semblance of revenge for his defeat to Novak Djokovic at the US Open with a 7-5 6-4 win in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters.
Djokovic and Federer served up a classic in their latest outing at the US Open and the quality was comparable in Shanghai. Djokovic came out on top at Flushing Meadows, after Federer squandered match points, but the Swiss was in no mood to be so charitable on this occasion as he overcame an early wobble to win with real authority.
Federer was eager to run round his backhand at every opportunity but Djokovic was alive to the threat early in the match and the Swiss had to save four break points in the fourth game of the match. Djokovic hit some brutal forehands but on each occasion Federer was able to come up with an answer.
Djokovic looked comfortable on his own serve until put under pressure when serving at 5-5. Federer worked a set point only to mistime a forehand, but he was given a second bite and did not need to do anything to take the break as Djokovic sent a weak backhand into the net.
Federer held with authority to close out the set, doing so with an ace, and carried the momentum into the second set by securing an immediate break of serve.
Djokovic failed to find an answer as Federer produced textbook tennis behind his own serve and booked a meeting with Andy Murray in Sunday's final.
