Second seed Robin Soderling needed a little over an hour to power past Daniel Gimeno-Traver into the quarter-finals at the Valencia Open in Spain.

The Swede became the fifth player this season to notch his 50th match win of the season. It was a comfortable victory for Soderling, who dropped just eight points on his serve as he wrapped up a 6-2 6-3 victory.

Soderling will meet Gael Monfils in the last eight after the Frenchman beat Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets. Fresh from his Open Sud de France victory on Sunday, Monfils showed no signs of fatigue as he sealed a 6-2 6-4 win.

Nikolay Davydenko set up a quarter-final clash with Gilles Simon after beating Juan Ignacio Chela 7-6(0) 6-2. The Russian, who has struggled to rediscover his form after recovering from a wrist injury earlier in the year, showed signs of a revival as he converted six of his eight break point opportunities.

Fourth seed David Ferrer also progressed with a 6-4 6-1 win over Teymuraz Gabashvili, while there were also wins for Potito Starace and Marcel Granollers.
