Andy Murray will meet with former coach Leon Smith in Melbourne to discuss making a return to the British Davis Cup team.

Fresh from his appearance for Britain alongside Laura Robson at the Hopman Cup in Perth, Murray heads to Melbourne to prepare for the Australian Open, where he will be seeded fifth.

Murray ended the year ranked No. 4 in the world, but has fallen to fifth following Robin Soderling's victory at the Brisbane International. The slip means he could face world No. 1 Rafael Nadal or defending champion Roger Federer as early as the quarter-finals.

Murray must make himself available for Great Britain in order to be eligible for the London 2012 Games, but he insists Olympic qualification is not his only motivation for returning to the Davis Cup fold. Murray revealed he could make himself available for Britain's tie against Tunisia in March.

"I didn't know about the Olympics situation until December, but I said to Leon before that I would be able to play and we should keep speaking," Murray said in the Daily Mail. "I will sit down and talk with him in Australia and see if he wants me to play in March or if it would be good for the other guys to have another match. I will definitely play, probably one or two."

In the women's rankings, former junior US Open champion, Heather Watson broke into the world's top 150 after reaching her first WTA Tour quarter-final in Auckland last week.
