Beaten Wozniacki confident for Melbourne

World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki believes her preparation for the Australian Open remains on track despite a disappointing defeat to start the 2011 season.

Wozniacki lost 6-3 6-3 to Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova in the second round of the Sydney International on Tuesday, her first competitive match of the new campaign.

With the opening grand slam of the season set to begin on January 17, the 20-year-old Dane is taking the positives from her stunted preparations, believing she is still in a position to perform well in Melbourne.

"It happens," said Wozniacki. "Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. You need to learn from the losses. It's the first tournament of the year.

"I just want to get the match playing going. There were a few positive things in there that I can take out of it, and then I just need to work on the rest. But I am confident that for Melbourne I will be okay."

Second seed Vera Zvonareva and fourth seed Sam Stosur joined Wozniacki in making an early exit from the competition, but world No. 3 Kim Clijsters eased through to continue her challenge.
