Jarmila Groth provided a home win at the Hobart International when proving too strong for American Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

The Australian is forging a strong reputation on the WTA Tour and she showed her class by taking the second title of her career with a 6-4 6-3 win.

Groth dropped just one set leading to the final and she never looked like handing her American rival a chance to exert herself on the match. Groth dominated play from the back of the court, with her big returns leading to five breaks of the Mattek-Sands serve.

The weather has been a problem in Hobart all week and Groth has admitted the final was not the greatest spectacle.

"It's been a difficult week with the rain and you could say an ugly final because of the wind," she said. "It was very difficult. There was no rhythm on the serve or through the points and sometimes the ball even stopped.

"It was a bit scrappy but I won so I can't complain very much. It's the first win at home, hopefully not the last."
