Andy Murray believes he is close to playing his best tennis after sailing into the Australian Open quarter-finals.

Murray made light work of world No. 11 seed Jurgen Melzer, and the British No. 1 is yet to drop a set in Melbourne. Before the match Murray admitted he was wary of Melzer's "unpredictable tennis", but the Austrian had no answer to an immaculate display from Murray, who hit 30 winners and just ten unforced errors.

"I am very pleased," Murray told BBC Sport. "It was a match expected to be difficult but I was intense from the start and I dictated a lot of points on my forehand and didn't make many mistakes.

"It was quite windy and I didn't want to get behind in any of the sets. I enjoyed it in the end and it was one of those matches where everything I hit went right."

Murray's path to the semi-finals has opened up after fourth seed Robin Soderling fell to Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov. The Scot must navigate his way past the unpredictable world No. 46, and while he insists he will not be underestimating his quarter-final opponent, Murray believes he is capable of beating anyone.

"If I keep playing like I am I will give myself a good chance to win matches," Murray said. "It was one of the best I've played but I need to be switched on for the next match."
