Steven Martens has resigned as player director of the Lawn Tennis Association to join the Royal Belgium Football Association.

The former Belgian Davis Cup captain joined the LTA as technical director in 2006, before taking up the player role in 2008.

One of Martens' main achievements was the review of men's tennis which has been incorporated into LTA stratefy.

Martens follows a host of big names in leaving the LTA, including Paul Annacone, Peter Lundgren and Brad Gilbert. He will take over as general secretary of the Belgian FA in the spring.

In a statement, the LTA paid tribute to the "significant change programme in the way performance tennis is structured and delivered across the country."

"Thanks to the work that Steven and the team have done over the past four years, we now have the structures in place to identify, deliver and support talent in this country," said chief executive Roger Draper. "Steven leaves with the very best wishes of the LTA."
