Keothavong progresses in Memphis

Anne Keothavong caused a stir in the WTA Cellular South Cup with the Brit ousting No. 6 seed Kristina Barrois falling 6-1 6-3.
Keothavong reached the semi-finals of the tournament 12 months ago and the air in Memphis would appear to be to her liking as she proved much too good for her German opponent.
Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova is also through to the second round after dropping just two games against American Shenay Perry in her 6-0 6-2 win.
"It's just the beginning of the season, so right now I'm really trying to build with each match and work on my game," Sharapova said. "I don't think any match is easy. You still have to go out and win the match. Today wasn't easy."
The Men's event in Memphis falls under the banner of the Morgan Keegan Championships and the big serving John Isner eased past Ryan Harrison 6-1 7-5.
