Roddick burns out in Indian Wells

Tempers flared in the Californian desert as the BNP Paribas Open continued on Wednesday but Andy Roddick was the only real tournament favourite to exit at the fourth round.
Roddick had one of his trademark running battles with the chair umpire as he lost 6-3 7-6 to Richard Gasquet.
Roddick's fiery antics often spur him to victory but on this occasion Frenchman Gasquet capitalised on the eighth seed's frustration to grab a break in each set and progress to the quarter-finals.
Novak Djokovic's utter domination of his Davis Cup doubles partner Viktor Troicki sent the lower-ranked Serb on a racquet-destroying rampage. Djokovic remains unbeaten in 2011 after the emphatic 6-0 6-1 victory and looks as likely as any to triumph in Indian Wells.
Rafael Nadal had to work significantly harder against qualifier Somdev Devvarman but he too progressed in straight sets, 7-5 6-4. World No.1 Nadal made a swag of errors on his forehand side but simply kept pace with the Indian before striking late in each set, wrapping up the match by claiming the last eight points.
And Roger Federer made it a clean sweep for the big three by outclassing Ryan Harrison 7-6 6-3, serving up ten aces in the process.
Seventh-seed Tomas Berdych, along with Roddick, was the other big threat to go before the quarters. Stanislas Wawrinka saw to that with a marathon come from behind victory 3-6 6-4 6-4.
Juan Martin Del Potro produced an incredible fightback from 6-1 down in the second set tie break to beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 7-6 while Ivo Karlovic sprung an upset by ending Albert Montanes' hopes 7-6 6-2.
Tommy Robredo needed little time to dispose of big-serving American Sam Querrey, beating the No. 21 seed 6-1 6-3. Robredo converted four break points whilst saving three on his own serve to advance.
