Andy Murray returned to winning ways with victory over Radek Stepanek and promptly took a swipe at his critics.

Murray had a tough time of things during the spring hard-court season but secured his first victory since January when disposing of Stepanek in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters.

The British No. 1 has made changes to his coaching team, although he is still without a full-time coach, and he claims to be far happier than 12 months ago.

Murray claims he has learnt to deal with the criticism that comes his way and feels his career is progressing along the right lines.

"There will be people criticising me all the time," Murray told Sky Sports. "I have had it for the last four or five years and is something I have got to deal with. They are not the people out there on the court.

"I am challenging and playing for some of the biggest events in the world and I am happy. I am a lot happier than I was this time last year, I am enjoying my tennis and am working hard.

"I believe in myself, I try hard and practice hard and that is all I can do."

Commenting on his 6-1 6-4 win over Stepanek, Murray said: "I played very well today. I hit the ball big from the beginning of the match. I was tentative towards the end, which was normal after the last few months, but I have been working very hard and for the first match on clay everything was good."
