Zheng Jie crashed out of the Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur, slumping to a 6-2 6-3 defeat at the hands of Taipei's Chang Kai-chen.

The Chinese No. 3 seed hit four double faults as she failed to hold serve on five occasions and crumbled against the world No. 92, who moves through to the quarter-finals where she will face sixth seed Sybille Bammer, who dropped just three games as she eased past Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3 6-0.

South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers battled back from a set down to beat Tatjana Malek 4-6 6-2 6-3 to reach her first WTA tour quarter-final, where she will meet Japan's Ayumi Morita.

Slovakian seventh seed Magdalena Rybarikova will play the favourite Elena Dementieva after she beat Thai qualifier Noppawan Lertcheewakarn 6-4 7-5.
