Venus Williams has joined sister Serena in confirming that she will not participate in this year's French Open.

Venus has not competed since she withdrew from the Australian Open in January at the third-round stage due to an abdominal injury, causing her to slip to No. 19 in the world rankings.

The 30-year-old does not have a great record at the French Open, getting past the quarter-final just once, when she was a losing finalist in 2002.

Serena withdrew from the Roland Garros tournament on Thursday, having not played a WTA Tour match in over 10 months.
