Andy Roddick and Juan Carlos Ferrero have both withdrawn from the French Open due to injury.

Both men have failed to recover from shoulder injuries. Roddick pulled out of this week's Nice Open in order to try and give the problem time to heal, but progress was slow and the American was ultimately forced to withdraw from the event at Roland Garros, which starts on Sunday.

Ferrero's withdrawal is less of a surprise, having played only two tournaments all year, although as a former champion (2003) in the event his absence will nevertheless be a disappointment to spectators and tournament officials alike.

Richard Berankis of Lithuania also pulled out on Thursday, tournament organisers confirmed. All three will be replaced by lucky losers.
