Rafael Nadal faces an anxious wait to learn the extent of a foot injury he suffered during his fourth-round victory over Juan Martin del Potro.

The reigning champion confirmed he will undergo an MRI scan on his left foot on Tuesday.

Nadal received treatment with the first set poised to go into a tiebreak, and although he appeared to have no problems with his mobility as he battled to a 7-6(6) 3-6 7-6(4) 6-4 victory, he admitted the injury was severe enough that he seriously considered throwing in the towel.

"At one moment at the end of the first set I thought I might have to retire," Nadal admitted. "I changed the position of the foot so I was able to continue bit with the pain.

"I don't what the problem is yet. It seems like the bone in the foot. I will get it checked out tomorrow."
