Australia playmaker Berrick Barnes spent the night in hospital after suffering a punctured lung in their Rugby Championship defeat to South Africa.

Barnes returned to the team hotel in Pretoria after initially being cleared of a chest injury following the 31-8 loss but was taken back to hospital after feeling discomfort. He is set to remain in Johannesburg for the next few days with the team doctor while the rest of the squad travels on to Rosario for next weekend' clash with Argentina.

The Wallabies suffered a further setback with the loss of Adam Ashley-Cooper who will fly back to Australia after being knocked out just before half-time at Loftus Versfeld.

Australia head coach Robbie Deans said: "Adam had a CT scan and he's been cleared and he's up and about so that's encouraging for him because that didn't look good."

Australia have further concerns over the fitness of Radike Samo (shoulder), Tatatfu Polota-Nau (neck) and Digby Ioane (knee) ahead of their clash with the Pumas. The trio are all set to travel to Argentina but their participation in the match is far from certain.
