Argentina beat New South Wales Barbarians 29-27 after Nicolas Sanchez kicked a penalty goal after the full-time siren in La Planta, but the visitors produced an impressive performance to score four tries to three against their hosts preparing for The Rugby Championship.

Wallabies prop Sekope Kepu scored two tries in the first half as the visitors claimed a two-point advantage at the break, and Peter Betham and Drew Mitchell crossed in the second stanza to put Michael Cheika's Waratahs-laden side in position to scalp their fully-capped Test opponents.

But Argentina, led by star back-rower Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, scored two tries within four minutes, through replacement hooker Agustin Creevy, to reduce the margin before Sanchez and Bernard Foley exchanged penalty goals in the closing 10 minutes.

NSW Barbarians still led by one point going into the final seconds, but Will Skelton conceded a penalty to gift Sanchez the opportunity to kick the 81st-minute match winner.

The New South Wales players who have been called into Ewen McKenzie's Wallabies training squad - including Kepu, Betham and Foley - now fly back to Australia to join the camp in Sydney, while the Barbarians play Argentina again in Salta on Friday.
