Dan Carter out for four to six weeks

Dan Carter 's latest injury is set to sideline him for six weeks, meaning he likely next to play rugby on the All Blacks' end-of-year tour of Europe.

Carter lasted just 15 minutes of the 29-15 victory over the Springboks before his right shoulder was damaged in a tackle by South Africa hooker Bismarck du Plessis in The Rugby Championship Test at Eden Park in Auckland.

The injury is but the latest in a frustrating run of outs for Carter, who has made just three Test appearances in 2013 and remains three matches short of becoming the fourth All Blacks player to reach 100 caps.

Steve Hansen is preparing to be without Carter for the final two rounds of The Rugby Championship, in which New Zealand play Argentina and South Africa away, and the final Bledisloe Cup Test of the year against Australia in Dunedin on October 19.

"Hopefully, we can get him on the plane to go to Paris," Hansen said of the All Blacks' European tour opener against France on November 9.

Tom Taylor, who sustained a rib injury on Test debut against the Wallabies in Wellington in August, is the likely replacement for Carter in the squad.
