MELVILLE HAS FAITH IN YOUTH

Gloucester boss Nigel Melville has heaped praise on the team of youngsters he
hopes will keep the Cherry Whites at the top of the Premiership throughout next
month's rugby World Cup.

The director of rugby watched his side romp to a 30-7 win over Saracens today
with 22-year-old fullback Jon Goodridge scoring a brace of tries.

``Jon is no longer my third choice fullback,'' said Melville who will lose up
to five players over the World Cup period.

``But I have been waiting to play him in his preferred choice of position to
see what he can do and he has done a great job today.

``He didn't play so well on the wing in his first game against Rotherham but I
know he can play well there too.

``I'm very happy with him. He has come through a hard year with injuries and
family bereavement and this will help springboard him on to better things.''

Melville, who was also delighted with substitute James Forrester's second-half
try added: ``We have got a lot of young lads here who are going to be playing
during the World Cup period and they're getting better each week, which is
hugely encouraging.''

Rod Kafer meanwhile blamed lack of discipline and execution for his side's
crushing defeat - their first of the season.

``Discipline and our variety of play let us down,'' said Saracens coach.

``Gloucester didn't create a great deal during the game, but they did
capitalise on our mistakes and they also did the things they wanted to do well.
All credit should go to them.''
