Waratahs looking for Foley back-up

Israel Folau is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the ankle surgery that he underwent after the Rugby World Cup, and he is on track to play for New South Wales Waratahs in the opening round of the expanded Super Rugby competition in February.

"He's running next week with a view to giving himself a month to get right for the final trial," Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson said after training on Wednesday.

"I think the break has been good for his head space and good for his body.

Winger Rob Horne and lock Will Skelton also look good for round one as they recover from their respective shoulder injuries.

"Rob Horne has been training without any difficulties, so at the moment things are going well for him," Gibson said.

"Will Skelton is certainly on track to play the first or second trial."
