Matteo Pratichetti is an exciting winger who has yet to fully realise his early promise. After just a handful of appearances for Calvisano, Pratichetti made his Italy debut as a 19-year-old against the All Blacks in November 2004.
However, he didn't feature again for the Azzurri for nearly three full years, only just managing to force his way into the 2007 World Cup squad, thanks in no small part to a hat-trick in the summer clash with Uruguay. However, he only made one appearance in the tournament, starting in the win over Portugal in Paris.
Pratichetti was a regular in the Italy starting line-up for the next two years, during which time he was sometimes deployed at centre, but he earned just two caps in 2010 and did not feature at all during the following year's Six Nations campaign. However, at the end of an encouraging debut season for new club Aironi, Pratichetti was called up for Italy's two-day World Cup training camp in May.
Pratichetti obviously impressed Italy coach Nick Mallett and will go to the 2011 World Cup as part of their 30-man squad.
