Crusaders' prop Owen Franks has become the third New Zealand player to be suspended following last weekend's matches after he was cited for striking an opponent when the Crusaders took on the Highlanders on Saturday night.

Franks has been suspended for two weeks after he was seen striking a Highlanders player in the 10th minute. Franks stated that he was attempting to remove the player from the wrong side of the maul, but conceded that during his attempts he struck his opponent with his arm.

Due to a fourth round bye, the commissioner considered the Crusaders Knights development match as a meaningful sanction for Franks, allowing Franks to become eligible for selection during the Crusaders fifth round clash with the Lions.
