Injured All Blacks playmaker Aaron Cruden has begun the long road back to rugby after undergoing successful knee surgery on Friday.

A Chiefs media statement confirmed Cruden's ACL reconstruction had been a success and that the fly-half would commence his rehabilitation in two weeks' time. Cruden is unlikely to feature at this year's Rugby World Cup with the timeframe for return on this type of surgery usually standing at a minimum of six months.

Cruden suffered the injury in the Chiefs' victory over the Crusaders in Round 10 of Super Rugby. The All Blacks also have injury concerns with Hurricanes No.10 Beauden Barrett, but he is only expected to be sidelined for a month with a medial ligament strain.
