Treble tonic for Caledonians as stars return
September 20, 2000

Glasgow Caledonians coach Richie Dixon has received a treble tonic ahead of Friday's Welsh/Scottish League clash with Ebbw Vale at Hughenden.

Spirits are already high after beating Edinburgh Reivers and they will be further boosted with the return of Scotland stars Glenn Metcalfe, Shaun Longstaff and Stewart Campbell from injury.

Full-back Metcalfe has not played since he damaged an ankle during Scotland's New Zealand tour in June. Longstaff has been out with a rib injury since the pre-season game with Northampton while Campbell missed the win over the Reivers because of a recurrence of an Achilles tendon injury.

But despite a few early problems the Super District look like getting into their stride for the start of the Heineken Cup next month.

Dixon said: "We're delighted Glenn, Shaun and Stewart will be available for selection. It reduces our injury list to single figures."

Eight of the Reds squad are still unavailable because of injuries, including Scotland skipper Andy Nicol and international stars James McLaren and Craig Chalmers.
