Michael Chieka has called Michael McDougall into the NSW Barbarians squad for to tour of Argentina, selecting the Eastwood winger from the Shute Shield Sydney club premiership competition after deciding against taking departing Wallabies utility Berrick Barnes.

"He's got some good wraps on him," assistant coach Alan Gaffney said of McDougall. "People who are good judges have rated him very highly; not only people from Eastwood but also those who have played against him. He's a player with a good all-round game, and someone who we believe could make the transition to the next level."

Cheika has also confirmed the withdrawal of Tatafu Polota Nau who failed to recover sufficiently after breaking his left forearm, and departing Wallabies second-row Sitaleki Timani, whom it was agreed would not tour.

Cheika will decide whether to replace Timani or Polota Nau after the conclusion of Shute Shield round 15 on Saturday

NSW Barbarians will play an Argentina team twice as the Pumas prepare for The Rugby Championship, in Buenos Aires on August 3 and in Salta on August 9.
