Hong Kong Bledisloe under threat?

Poor ticket sales could threaten October's Bledisloe Cup Test in Hong Kong according to media reports in New Zealand.

The game, slated for Hong Kong Stadium on October 30, will be the fourth meeting between Australia and New Zealand this season and the third Trans-Tasman contest to be played in Asia. In 2009, New Zealand secured the spoils at Tokyo's Olympic Stadium, having also prevailed in Hong Kong in the inaugural overseas Test in 2008.

The reports indicate that both the New Zealand and Australian Unions are worried about the slow ticket sales, with under 10,000 snapped up at the 40,000 seat venue. Last year, ticket giveaways were required to boost numbers inside the ground.

Early reports have suggested that the game could be moved to Europe in order to ensure a financially viable fixture. Twickenham has previously been mentioned as a possible venue for a future Test.

The All Blacks start their Grand Slam tour at Twickenham on November 6 before Tests against Scotland, Ireland and Wales on successive weekends. Australia's tour covers tests against Wales, England, Italy and France plus midweek games against Munster and Leicester.
