Former Australia captain Rocky Elsom will have a medical at Toulon on Monday before completing a move to the Top 14 giants.

The back-row forward has been dogged by injuries in recent years, but is set to to put pen to paper on a short term deal as temporary cover with a permanent deal reportedly in the pipeline. "If the medical is successful, then the player will sign with Toulon," club officials said in a statement.

Elsom, a veteran of 75 Tests between 2005 and 2011, has suffered a series of groin injuries and has also undergone shoulder surgery. He has been playing in Japan with Kobelco Steelers since leaving New South Wales Waratahs last year.

Toulon have lined up the 30-year-old, who also tasted Heineken Cup success with Leinster in 2009, to replace Stephane Munoz, who has been out of action with a fractured orbital lobe since January.
