South Africa fullback Frans Steyn will miss this Saturday's Tri-Nations clash against New Zealand with a hamstring injury.

Steyn picked up the injury during his side's 14-9 defeat to Australia in Durban last Saturday and the versatile 24-year-old has now been ruled out of the showdown with the All Blacks in Port Elizabeth this weekend.

Furthermore, Bok captain John Smit sat out training on Monday morning because of flu. Springbok conditioning coach Neels Liebel confirmed that the elbow injury Smit sustained is not serious. Both Smit and Bakkies Botha, who is also struggling with a light bout of flu, are expected to be fit for Satruday's game with the team announcement due on Tuesday.

Meanwhile back-row Juan Smith has been released to play for the Free State Cheetahs on Saturday in their Currie Cup clash with the Pumas as the star flanker bids to regain his fitness ahead of the World Cup.

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers, whose side are riding a run of three straight defeats, said the team was looking forward to play in the new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. "It will be our first Test in Port Elizabeth in a number of years and the first time we'll face New Zealand here since 1970," he said. "It's going to be a big occasion and one we're looking forward to.

"We weren't happy with defeat against Australia last weekend, but we did a lot of things right in the Test - small things we've really been working hard on - and that was good to see. This weekend we have to be even better in our execution."
