France centre Mathieu Bastareaud has secured his long-term future, signing a five-year contract extension with Toulon.

Bastareaud has been a key component in the Top 14 club's recent success having signed from Stade Francais in 2011.

The powerful centre has also won 39 Test caps for France and was a member of Les Bleus' 2015 Rugby World Cup squad.

And he will be staying at the Stade Mayol for a while to come, with the club confirming the news of his new deal on their official Twitter feed.

News of Bastareaud's contract follows a busy week for Toulon, who have also secured the signature of France fly-half Francois Trinh-Duc for next season while tying hooker Guilhem Guirado to a new three-year deal.

Toulon have endured a difficult start to the season, beginning their European Champions Cup defence with a 32-6 defeat to Wasps, and having lost four of their first nine Top 14 encounters so far.
