Police have arrested two teenagers over the theft of 15 valuable jerseys owned by former All Blacks back Leon MacDonald.

The pair were reportedly arrested while driving a stolen car and will now face charges for the burglary of MacDonald's Blenheim home and "other unrelated matters".

The former Crusaders and All Blacks star, who won six Super Rugby titles and played 56 Tests during his career, said he was "gutted" by the loss of the shirts, telling Fairfax Media in New Zealand "there's a story behind every one". He was particularly upset by the theft of a British & Irish Lions jumper as the tourists were "special - you play them once in a lifetime if you're lucky".

MacDonald, now an ITM Cup assistant coach with Tasman, had confronted the alleged offenders after returning home from a night out. It is not known whether the jerseys have been located.
