1

We're underway in this last World Cup quarterfinal as Finn Russell kicks us off!

2

Australia given the quick penalty, kicked into the Scottish 22 and we've just had the first lineout. Worked well from Bernard Foley and Matt Giteau but Scotland keeping them out by winning the turnover.

3

First Australian scrum results in some swift passing down to Ashley-Cooper on the right flank. All Australia so far. Pinging it back down the line to Drew Mitchell for an attack down the left edge now...

4

Foley spots a gap and he's inches from the try before he offloads - which falling to the floor - to Drew Mitchell who can't collect. Massive let off for Scotland.

5

Scotland require the kick to finally get out their own 22.

8 5 - 0

We've breen treated to a series to unfruitful Australian lineouts. Set piece slowing the game down, which is what Scotland really need to do to get a grip in this game. Already looks like it's a step too far for them and it's only been eight minutes - Wallabies completely dominating.

9

AUSTRALIA TRY!
Tevita Kuridrani splits the Scottish line before offloading to Ashley-Cooper for a right corner finish. Easy, simple, effective.

10

Foley missed the kick, though...

11

12

First bit of Scottish territory as their lineout gives them a bit of space. Their inside the 22 and on the prowl for a try. Can they make it?

13 5 - 3

Scotland taking the game to this Wallabies side and they've made it to phase 11 and a little dart from Hogg proves fruitful as they've won the penalty. Laidlaw to take the points.

16

Scotland managing to get a foothold in this game as they're taking the attack to Australia again. Impressive catch from Seymour as he barged away Foley in the air.

17 5 - 8

SCOTLAND TRY!
Scotland made it to phase 12. Some shocking defence from the Wallabies who just switched off when Ross Ford picked the ball up from the ruck five metres out and ran home.

18 5 - 10

Laidlaw - conversion

19

Scottish scrum comes to a Scottish penalty - another chance for Laidlaw!

20 5 - 13

Laidlaw - penalty goal

22

Australia on the attack again and Foley's chip and chase isn't quite good enough and Scotland recollect towards their back line. Australia - in particular Foley - starting to look quite nervous, some poor errors.

24

Back and forth kicking from the full backs...

25

Australia scrum eventually leads to their penalty after Scotland planted their hands in the ruck. Cotter's side doing great at slowing the game down and Australia on the back foot now I'd say. They have the lineout down their left however.

28

AUSTRALIA TRY!
Commentators curse that, they've managed to work it to phase 16 and Mitchell has made it in the left corner. Impressive Wallabies move as they shifted it along the entire line. Some big ball carries from the forwards involved, too.

29 10 - 13

30

Misses the conversion...

31

Scottish scrum...

32

And they've got the penalty for that as Australia are penalised for collapsing. Laidlaw teeing up for the extra few.

33 10 - 16

Laidlaw - penalty goal

35

Scotland battling away hard in their half and they've just won the turnover. Stuart Hogg running with the ball, and they've made it the half way...

36

They've made it phase nine before conceding the penalty as Nel became isolated and failed to release in the ruck.

38

Australia penalty after Scotland infringe from the scrum and they've gone for the lineout. Definitely within kicking distance - do they fancy their usually useful driving maul or is it Foley's poor kicking that's switched their decision?

39 15 - 16

AUSTRALIA TRY!
Michael Hooper has it. Driving maul on the right flank - once again - works perfectly from the lineout and they've got the extra try.

HALF TIME ANALYSIS

ESPN's Tristan Barclay had this to say:

"Even the most committed of Scotland fans couldn't have seen that coming. Apart from the start and the end of the half, the Dark Blues have put in their best performance of the tournament so far. Australia made the early running and it looked as though it could be a long afternoon for the Scots when Adam Ashley-Cooper flew over after eight minutes. However, Scotland have managed to score points every time they have been into enemy territory, and the likes of Blair Cowan and Dave Denton have been monumental in defence. The Wallabies go into half-time with a spring in their step after Michael Hooper dotted down for their third try, but with Bernard Foley's kicking boots deserting him, they remain behind on the scoreboard. The southern hemisphere side are still favourites for the win, but Scotland have them rattled. "

40

We're back under way here as Australia have kicked us back into play.

41

Maitland has been binned and Scotland are under pressure now. Should see the look on Laidlaw's face. Australia have kicked for the lineout from the resulting penalty, will their trusty driving maul pay again?

42 20 - 16

AUSTRALIA TRY!
Yes! Not in the same fashion as previously, but it's opened the space on the left for Drew Mitchell to drive home. Driving maul paying dividends yet again. A lethal weapon which Australia have nailed in this tournament.

43 22 - 16

Foley - conversion

45

Scotland scrum now just along the half way, can the Australia scrum make their forward power pay like a few moments ago in the maul...? Nope! Collapsed! Scotland penalty and the chance for Laidlaw to kick a few.

46 22 - 19

Beauty from Laidlaw!

47

Scotland absolutely botched the restart. Fail to tkae the kick and Australian pressure forces some awful handling and decision making. They have the lineout again from five metres. They will kick themselves very hard if this makes it.

48

AUSTRALIA TRY! Or not?
Unbelievable. Clinical edge to Australia's game. They've made the lineout pay AGAIN...! Wait! The TMO has ruled a knock on in the build up. Great Australian attack as they work it from the right flank lineout all the way to the right swiftly. Very almost a try. Scrum on five metres...

50

Another Australian fault in the scrum, this time Kepu's shoulder falling and he's injured because of it...

51

Australian lineout, this time in a less dangerous position, fortunately for the Scottish players.

52

Another penalty now, but this time for Australia for an obstruction. Foley to kick. He's only made 1 of 4, and this is pretty far out...

53 25 - 19

Made it! Six point lead for the Wallabies now.

55

Australia have the lineout again along half way and they've shifted it back inside well before Scotland turn it over. Laidlaw picks up and delivers left to his team mates.

56

Nice little burst from Hogg looks threatening but a couple of bad fumble from his teammate on the inside drops it and that's that attacking move finished. Better from Scotland.

57

Australia scrum for a knock on, we awaits Genia's ball roll...

58 25 - 24

SCOTLAND TRY!
SEYMOUR'S THERE! Amazing off load from Russell who's on the deck. He closes down Foley's kick before being dragged down, elegantly finding the incoming full back to guide home the five. Great stuff.

59

Laidlaw can't make the kick!

61

62

Australia lineout restarts play after a couple of subs but it's just on the edge of the Scottish 22 so not an immediate threat.

63 30 - 24

AUSTRALIA TRY!
This could be curtains for Scotland if they don't pick up the pace again. Hooper made yards off the lineout and Tevita Kuridrani has to fully stretch his arm on the deck with the ball to make sure of the try. Good try, Foley setting up the conversion now...

64 32 - 24

Foley - conversion

65

Scotland back on the attack as they're looking to make amends for that try...

67

Scotland have pushed and pushed and pushed this attack. They're just a few metres from the Wallabies try line showing no signs of giving up here. Couple of dodgy passes though, but they're just about hanging on to the hope of a try somehow.

68

Scotland pen! And they've gone for the three points!

69 32 - 27

Laidlaw - penalty goal

70

Australia attacking again and Hogg's had to kick long and high to relieve it as another Wallabies try was looming. Not ideal to gift possession back but atleast it's relieved the pressure for the time being.

72

Scotland scrum now after a solid midfield battle from the lineout Hogg gifted to his opposition.

73 32 - 32

SCOTLAND TRY!
WOW! GREAT STUFF FROM SCOTLAND! What an interception that was from Bennett who pirated that ball from Australia who looked fairly comfortable. They were passing it down the line along half way and Bennett came in and stole it. Remarkable. Indecision from the Wallabies costing them.

74 32 - 34

Laidlaw - conversion

75

76

Scrums now, with Scotland in hand after a knock from the Wallabies. They'll take this. They've been fairly competent in the scrum all day and this will waste time.

77

Controversial call as Scotland given the penalty after Australia penalised for early engagement! Kicked long!

78

Knock on from Hardie gifts Australia the chance of a penalty. Foley is kicking. This could be it. Cheika can't watch.

79 35 - 34

He's done it! Australia lead by one point with one minute left!

80

IT'S OVER! AUSTRALIA HAVE KICKED IT INTO TOUCH!

FULL TIME ANALYSIS

ESPN's Tristan Barclay had this to say:

"Who is writing these scripts? Scotland and Australia have just played out yet another thrilling World Cup quarterfinal and, with 60 seconds remaining, it looked as if we could have a monumental upset on our hands. The Scots ran the southern hemisphere side oh so close, putting in their best performance of the tournament and rattling the Aussie cage from the 10th minute to the last. Australia, however, have Bernard Foley and that kick to win it right at the death has to be one of the moment's of the World Cup. The boos were ringing out around Twickenham but Foley shut them out to boot his team into the final four. It's a shame there had to be a loser. What a game of rugby that was. "
