Injured All Black Richard Kahui could be back in action in less than a month after encouraging reports on his shoulder injury.
The Chiefs midfielder picked up the injury in New Zealand's opening Tri-Nations win over South Africa in Auckland on July 10, prompting fears that surgery would rule him out for the remainder of the season.
Kahui has already undergone two shoulder reconstructions but that fear has been dismissed following fresh scans.
"Richard sustained a small fracture of the shoulder socket but the good news is that the injury is stable and improving rapidly," All Blacks doctor Deb Robinson said. "At this stage, he doesn't require surgery.
"Richard is now concentrating on strengthening work and rehabilitation and we will monitor him with an aim of getting him back into rugby in three to four weeks' time."
The All Blacks are next in action when they take on Australia in Melbourne on July 31.
