The playing surface at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium has been ravaged by the floods currently wreaking havoc in Queensland.

The 52,500 seat arena was overrun by two metres of flood water on Wednesday, causing the postponement of Brisbane Roar's A-League match against Wellington Phoenix. There was also a fire in one of the ground's transformer rooms.

Suncorp Stadium, formerly Lang Park, hosted two Wallabies Tests in 2010, a victory over touring Ireland and a Tri-Nations triumph against South Africa.

The state's Super Rugby franchise, the Reds, have been active in the community following the devastating events of recent days, filling sandbags to protect their Ballymore home from the swollen Enoggera Creek before pitching in at a council facility in Stafford.

Rob Simmons and Rod Davies manned phones during a Brisbane telethon at the weekend while Wallabies Saia and Anthony Faingaa will donate their first match payments from the Super Rugby season to the relief effort. The Australian Rugby Union has also pledged AU$50,000 to the cause.

"It just wasn't us there, there was a lot of people just wanting to come down and lend a hand so it's great to see the community banding together," Reds lock James Horwill told AAP. "We just wanted to help in any way we could."
