Rampage Jackson has clarified the reason why he feels disrespected by Jon Jones, claiming the UFC light-heavyweight champion made up a story to harm his name.

Jackson has labelled Jones "cocky" throughout his camp, which has raised several eyebrows after Jones' relatively humble entrance into the UFC. Rampage and Rashad Evans have labelled the champion a "fake", but up until now Jackson has preferred not to elaborate on his reasons.

However, less than 72 hours before their 205lb title showdown, Jackson told ESPN that Jones fabricated a story about him. In his eyes, regardless of the content of the story, Rampage claims it was an obvious attempt by Jones to damage the veteran's reputation.

"Someone told me he said he met me a long time ago but I was with some girl and I started making out with her," Jackson said. "I think that's a bold-faced lie.

"I don't even kiss girls in public. If someone's looking at me, I'm not making out with no girl. That's just not in my character.

"This is just him trying to make me look bad. I don't think he's a stand-up person. I think he is kind of fake."

Jones preferred not to get caught up in the details of the story, but he made no effort to deny that an incident had occurred between the pair. In Jones' eyes, there is no reason for any form of camaraderie between the two rivals going into their Denver tear-up.

"Yeah, it was something that happened a long time ago," Jones said. "I don't want to get into it and add anything extra to this whole fight. There's really no history between us.

"He's a big star and this is the first time he's acknowledged me. There really isn't a relationship. We don't know each other. We have nothing in common."
