Fabricio Werdum's coach claims the Brazilian is on his way back to the UFC, and it is believed he had been lined up as Shane Carwin's next opponent prior to the announcement that Carwin is sidelined until the summer of 2012.

Werdum's first spell in the UFC failed to raise the heartbeat as he went 2-2, suffering the axe after being knocked out by Junior Dos Santos. Three bouts prior to that saw Werdum fight in England on each occasion, beating Brandon Vera and Gabriel Gonzaga but losing to Andrei Arlovski.

Since leaving the UFC Werdum has rebuilt his reputation with Strikeforce, most notably becoming the first man in 10 years to beat Fedor Emelianenko.

More recently, the Brazilian suffered an embarrassing defeat to Alistair Overeem in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, drawing criticism for his lack of willing to exchange. Nevertheless, it seems he has done enough to ride back into the UFC.

"He's back to the trainings, he's making everybody laugh," Rafael Cordeiro told Tatame. "He'll probably fight in December… He's talking to the UFC guys, and maybe they come up with something for December.

"I like the idea, he deserves it. In case it actually happens, UFC is the place he should've never left. The best are there, and that's where Werdum belongs."
