Matt Mitrione has confessed he will be hoping to steer clear of any low blows from Cheick Kongo when the pair meet at UFC 137.

Kongo has been known to throw the odd low punch during his time in the UFC, although in defence of the Frenchman his transgressions have largely been inadvertent in their nature.

Nevertheless Mitrione, who anticipates a stand-up war in Las Vegas, is taking extra precautions prior to fight night. "As long as it covers my jewels, my nuts and berries, I'll be alright," Mitrione quipped.

On a more serious note, it is believed Mitrione can propel himself into title contention with victory over Kongo. Mitrione brings knockout power, athleticism and improving wrestling to the table, but he insists he does not want to rush his rise to the top.

"I don't get paid to worry about that," Mitrione said. "I don't really care, to be honest. If I go out there and kick Cheick Kongo's ass, then that's a conversation that we'll have."
