UFC president Dana White remains doubtful that BJ Penn will actually retire after suffering a one-sided loss against Nick Diaz at UFC 137.

After being on the wrong end of a unanimous decision in Las Vegas, an emotional Penn stated that he no longer has the hunger to keep competing in the Octagon.

But White is less than convinced that was the 32-year-old moving into retirement, believing he will change his mind after taking a few weeks off to process the defeat.

"BJ is a warrior," White said. "What happened to him tonight has never happened to him in his entire career.

"What he's thinking tonight he might not think eight weeks from now."

Penn was not able to attend the post-fight media conference as he received medical treatment, so was unable to shed more light on the matter himself.

"They took BJ right to the hospital," White added. "Who knows. It might be or it might not be [the end of Penn]. That's up to him."
