Diaz handed temporary suspension

Nick Diaz has been handed a temporary suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission while they investigate his recent positive drugs test for marijuana.

Diaz tested positive for the substance in the aftermath of his most recent fight against Carlos Condit at UFC 143, a fight he lost.

The 28-year-old has previously failed a test in similar circumstances - back in 2007 while a fighter in Pride - but is licensed for the use of medicinal marijuana in the state of California.

The Commission will now gather evidence surrounding the case, before meeting Diaz and making a full judgement - something that will most likely take place in April.

In past cases, athletes in a similar situation to Diaz have usually been handed a one-year ban.
