Reports that Silva will be stripped of title untrue - White
UFC president Dana White has rubbished suggestions that Anderson Silva will be stripped of his middleweight title following a mythical fallout with the UFC.
It is expected that Silva's middleweight championship rematch with Chael Sonnen will no longer be able to take place in Rio on June 23 due to a clash with a United Nations conference. The announcement of the change to the schedule is expected this week.
One suggestion has been that Silva and Sonnen will instead fight in Las Vegas, which - it was reported - had not gone down well with Silva. It was claimed the champion would refuse to fight in Vegas, prompting White to strip him of the belt.
The truth? Nothing could be wider of the mark.
"That is s***," White stated. "That is such a f***ing lie. It's crazy. Wherever that came from, if it was a media source or whoever said it, it's an absolute flat-out lie. It makes me sick. Never once did I say that.
"Anderson and I haven't had a problem about this fight. There's reports out of Brazil with Anderson saying, 'I want to fight in Brazil,' which he does. Of course he wants to fight Chael Sonnen in Brazil. I get it. And Chael Sonnen is 100 percent willing to go to Brazil and fight him."
"We had the whole arena mapped out and ready to go. We were pumped and ready for that. The whole thing just fell apart. We're working on it still at this minute."
