Gustafsson out until October, Fitch back in four weeks

Swedish light-heavyweight prospect Alexander Gustafsson will reportedly be out of action until October with a broken hand, while Jon Fitch expects to be fit within a month.

Gustafsson has been making waves at 205lbs, beating Thiago Silva last time out. He is believed to be one more win from a title shot, against the winner of Jon Jones and Dan Henderson.

However, Mauricio Shogun Rua discussed the Swede when talking about potential next rivals. Shogun had been set to fight Silva himself, but an injury has left him running out of options.

"The name Rashad Evans has been talked about but he is injured," Shogun said on his official Facebook page. "Same goes for Minotouro [Nogueira].

"Gustafsson was another option but it seems like he has a broken hand and will only be back in October.

"For us the only options left at the time are Phil Davis, who is fighting Wagner Caldeirao in August, and Ryan Bader, who is fighting Lyoto [Machida] in the same event."

Shogun's revelation that both Evans and Gustafsson are injured came after he was accused of ducking Glover Teixeira, one of the most dangerous fighters in the world but without the reputation to justify the risk.

Meanwhile, Fitch has elaborated on the cause of his withdrawal from a July 11 fight with Aaron Simpson. The welterweight said: "I injured my knee. I have a partially torn ACL and I will be out about four weeks."
