Michael Bisping will have surgery on Friday to correct a torn meniscus in his knee.

Bisping was ruled out on Thursday of his UFC 149 meeting with Tim Boetsch, which would have taken him closer to a middleweight title shot.

The Brit has been suffering with a knee problem, as first reported on the ESPN UFC Podcast, but the injury is not too serious. An operation on Friday will put Bisping back on the road to full fitness and he anticipates a quick return to action.

Fighters Only reports that the middleweight expects to be sidelined only for "a few weeks", increasing the likelihood that he might be paired with Brian Stann upon his return.

Stann recently had to withdraw from his bout with Hector Lombard, but revealed he should be back in six-to-eight weeks.
