Welterweight Thiago Alves is aiming for a December return to the Octagon after successfully undergoing surgery on a torn pectoral muscle.

Alves was forced to withdraw from a UFC 149 meeting with Siyar Bahadurzada due to the injury, which he sustained in training. But, after consultation with his doctor, the Brazilian is hopeful he will resume his career in the Octagon before the end of 2012.

"Great news, just talked to my doctor and my [physical therapist]," Alves posted on Twitter. "They both told me I'll be back fighting again by December. I can't wait!"

Alves was beaten in his last fight in the UFC, submitting to Martin Kampmann at the start of March.
