UFC president Dana White announced on Saturday that Rory MacDonald will not be fighting BJ Penn at UFC 152 due to injury, but the welterweight insists he still wants the Prodigy later this year.

MacDonald suffered a cut to the eyebrow in sparring and will need no-contact for four weeks. That means he will not have sufficient time to prepare for the comeback of Penn on September 22.

"Rory is out," White said. "He got cut open today - wide open. No contact for a month."

White did not confirm whether Penn would stay on the UFC 152 card, although it is highly likely he will be pulled. The former two-weight champ had been retired and was only re-emerging to fight MacDonald.

As for MacDonald, he posted a picture of his cut, and called for Penn to fight him later this year - potentially in November.

"Today I was cut at sparring, I needed three layers of stitching," MacDonald tweeted. "In total I needed 38 stitches. I'm very sad right now that I will not be healed in time to fight September 22.

"I am hoping that BJ Penn will agree to have the fight on a later date in November."
