Belfort: I'll write my name in the history books

Vitor Belfort has labelled Jon Jones "one of the best fighters in history", but he still expects to teach the UFC light-heavyweight champion a lesson on Saturday.

Belfort is one of the legendary names in MMA, owning the moniker "The Phenom" after a 16-year career in which he has fought many of the greatest. Randy Couture, Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin all know what it is like to lose to Belfort, and the Brazilian is still far from being past his best.

However, should he beat Jones at UFC 152, Belfort might just chalk up the greatest win of his career. Jones has not looked like losing since taking the title from Mauricio Shogun Rua, and such is his current dominance at 205lbs that thoughts have already switched to a potential move to heavyweight.

Belfort is no pushover though - far from it - and he enters the Octagon having won seven of his last eight. Only Anderson Silva has beaten him, and Belfort believes he is at his best when nothing is expected of him.

"Jon Jones is one of the best fighters in history and I'm so glad I get to fight him," the 35-year-old told ESPN. "I'm going to put my name in history.

"Nobody expects anything. That's when it's most exciting. Will overcomes skill. My goal is to go out there and stop everything he throws."

Belfort has also promised to make it a short night against Jones in Toronto, revealing he is only preparing for the fight to go one round.
